An der Autobahn (On the highway)
Stéphanie Morin, Fiction, 2025, Germany, 15:00 minutes
Director and editor: Stéphanie Morin
Production: Karen Thompson and Stéphanie Morin
Director of Photography: Antoinette Dyskman
Color grading: Juliette Valentin
Sound designer: Guido Giorgi
Synopsis
Phương, a German-Vietnamese musician, drifts through a rapidly transforming Berlin. As a new stretch of highway nears completion, its empty lanes foreshadow the dismantling of the local music scene. To make way for the road, venues are threatened to be demolished. Blending documentary and fiction, the film acts as a time capsule of a subculture under threat. Drawing on the road movie genre and the element of drift, it explores the erasure of culture in the face of urban development, and underground music as a vital force in the movement of a city. Ultimately, An der Autobahn is an anti-road movie.
